And all this you do along with attending to hungry customers ordering food or critical customers who may find fault in your food. You should also be able to bear the heat of a kitchen, which is scorching hot all round the year. Even the best kitchens have a temperature of about 95 degrees or even higher. You have to be a multi-task person if you want to become a good chef. You must be able to deal with your kitchen staff well. All this requires an adequate amount of training and plenty of practical experience. Let us check out some tips to becoming a good chef. First of all you must have a strong desire to be a chef. You must have a good sense of smell and taste. You just cannot prepare a good meal, if you cannot make out one spice or the other. You must also have knowledge of the combination of spices: which spices go well together, and which ones don’t agree with each other at all. Cooking is not the same as being a chef. Just cooking at home allows you the margin to make mistakes, because only you will be eating it. But if you are cooking only for strangers, you must aim at striving for perfection. How you display the food and present it can indeed be enticing, and that is important for the chef to do. As a chef you have to start right at the bottom. It is one of the few occupations, where you do most of the training on the job. There are many schools which give such training programs, but nevertheless most of the training is done in a working environment. The task of becoming a good chef is moderately challenging. Besides having a chef uniform and a large knowledge about food, you must show more charm than a politician and more endurance than a marathon runner. You have to understand that there is a difference between working hard and playing hard. It is definitely going to be helpful if you also have a knowledge of money, advertising and business. Start your career with hands on experience in the industry. Work hard in the kitchen doing all jobs there, but make sure to take notes on what you see there, especially what you like and don’t. A good education should follow after that and once you are a graduate and have a degree, you are ready for your new job. The experience is the most important thing that you get all along. You will realize that the actual boss is the customer and he/she needs to be charmed by your culinary skills. In this way you can collect experience to have a restaurant of your own some day or work in a top position. What makes a restaurant last is the experience the chef brings with him, because the experience gives you ability and knowledge. You learn to choose the correct tools and ingredients and also learn presentation and charm which brings in customers and business.
