Organic Coffee You Say? It’s The Nectar of Life!
Sunday, May 17th, 2009    Subscribe To Our FeedTerrific New eBook On How To Broil Delicious Foods I’m going to explain a bit about USDA certified organic products, especieally my favorite, organic coffee. 1) No synthetic fertilizers or pesticides may be used to raise certified organic crops. 2) Organic certified products can’t use unnatural, genetically engineered crops or animals. 3) To be labeled 100% organic the product may only contain organic ingredients (excluding water and salt). 4) Products baring the organic label will contain at least 95% organic certified ingredients, and the remaining 5% must be items that are not available in an organic form. 5) The USDA organic logo may be placed on any 100% organic or “Organic” item. 6) If an agricultural item, like coffee is labeled as organic it wasn’t be treated with horrible fertilizers such as sewage sludge. What we’ve gone through is just a quick checklist of the USDA organic labeling regulations. Onto Organic Coffee. When it comes to organic coffee, we can be confident that all the coffee beans are organic, because coffee isn’t compiled of multiple ingredients like a cake. Do you want to know why you might want to care if your coffee is organic? 1) Synthetic fertilizers and pesticides are bad enough, but just consider, sewage sludge! 2) One of my most endearing comforts with the USDA organic certification is no gene splicing business. 3) For you unleaded coffee drinkers, organic coffee is your best friend. Regular coffees use nasty chemicals like methylene chloride and ethyl acetate to decaffeinate the beans. Certified organic decaffeinated coffees are decaffeinated by a water process. A lot of studies indicate that drinking decaf. leads to rheumatoid arthritis. More studies need to be done to compare traditional (chemical decaf.) and water processed decaf. 4) Pesticides and herbicides can be lethal in high concentrations. Many coffee farmers live in very poor conditions and may not be able to afford the right protective equipment, which may lead to toxic exposure to chemicals. I could go on and on about why you should only buy organic coffee. I haven’t even delved into all the environmental havoc that results from just manufacturing the pesticides and herbicides. As a closing thought, farmers that grown their crops organically are giving specieal attention to the natural needs of their crop, resulting in high quality coffee that tastes great! It’s never too late to start buying organic coffee. So give it a try, you may be surprised. By now you’re probably wondering, “where can I get this delicious Organic Coffee you speak of?” We’ll it just so happens that I own Nectar of Life Organic Coffee Company, so click that link and head on over!
